Bee’s & Our Food

Tuesday August 15 @ 6:30pm in the Community Room

All members are invited to come down for a talk on the role of the honeybee in providing the very foods we eat and their vulnerability in the face of large scale agriculture. We will also get a first hand account of urban beekeeping practices here in the city that aim to save the honeybee – including an update on how our own hive is doing!

Max Milton Kelley & Friends at the Island Cafe

Much of the Toronto Islands are under water, but the businesses on Wards Island are still up and running and wanting us land folk to visit!

DFC will be hosting a trip  to the oh-so-charming Island  Café to check out a    concert by local band Max Milton Kelly & Friends! This is open to any co-op  members who would like to attend! Oodles of Noodles

 Members are welcome to come down and help cook a great noodle dish. These yummy dishes will then be circulated to members who want / need. This will be a fun way to connect with one another and help out members of our community. Many dishes will also feature produce directly from our co-op garden! How cool is that?

6 Nations of the Grand River Bus Trip

Saturday July 15, 9am – 6pm

DFC is excited to announce that we will be hosting a bus trip to the 6 Nations of the Grand River, a vibrant Haudenosaunee community situated along the Grand River just outside of Brantford Ontario. Guests will enjoy a day of sightseeing, learning and get to take in two amazing programs developed by the 6 Nations Tourism Board;

 Where Cultures Meet @ The Kayanse Long House
 On The Water – Canoeing or Paddle Boarding.
 We will also have time to visit museums, galleries and shops.

This trip is open to any members that are interested in attending. It will be a great chance to get out of the city and connect with the rich history and traditions of the Haudenosaunee people. There is space for up to 30 members to attend and a refundable $10.00 fee to reserve your spot.

YOUTH & ELDERS PROJECT

Wednesday May 31, 8pm @ Buddies in Bad Times Theatre

Integrating text, movement, music, and design, a group of queer youth and elders embark on an oral history of queer lives. We have a very small block of tickets to this show. If you aren’t able to make it with the DFC group, check out other show times and dates.

We are excited to welcome local trans activist and educator Talia Johnson to speak about the fight for trans rights – around the globe and here at home. This is a great opportunity to learn and become and ally.

We are mega jazzed to host a sing-a-long / quote-a-long screening of gay camp classics The Wizard of Oz and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Cocktails and snacks will be served.

DFC PRIDE BRUNCH!

Traditionally, PRIDE at DFC has been a night-time affair, but we are shaking things up this year. In addition to lots of great food, coffee, and cocktails, guests will also have a chance to flaunt their sass with our own lip-synch battle! TORONTO AIDS CANDLELIGHT VIGIL

KNOWING TORONTO’S QUEER PAST

Wednesday June 21, 7pm in the Community Room

Tim McCaskell, local gay activist and founding member of the Body Politic, will be here to give an illuminating talk on our city’s queer past – the good, the bad and the ugly! He will also touch on some themes from his new book,  Queer Progress : From Homophobia to Homonationalism. Wine and appetizers will be served.

The co-ops’ Soup-er Group was a huge hit this past winter. Building on its success, we have launched the Oodles of Noodles Group. Members are welcome to come down and help cook a great noodle dish. Recipes will range from Asian, to Italian, to Thai, and from traditional wheat noodles, to refreshing raw vegetable noodles.
